Quick Start to DNA-PAT

            This will be a growing document as more information is added to it and additional steps are included. Be sure to revisit it often for more information!

OK! Let's Get Started!

When you first open up your DNA-PAT™ Admin Kit you will see a login screen. Enter the login name and password you were given, or setup, in the install and click the ‘Submit Info’ icon.

Now that you’re in you will see for areas: Participant TaskGroup TasksReportsProject Administration.

Lets start with Project Administration, because this is were information shows up on your ‘Results Pages’ that the public will see. Click on ‘Configure Current Project’.

The sections in ‘Configure Current Project’:

Project ID: - If you are using the Std version, this probably be 1 but you can put any number. In Pro you can have multiple project so, assign a number as you need to.

Project Name: - Enter your genealogy DNA project name. Remember what you put in this field shows up on the Results Pages in the header and other places on that page. Example: MyFamily Genealogy DNA (then the software will add – Results Pages – to the header)

Default Surname: Enter the surname that you want the software to default to when you enter participant names. You can change this when you enter information, this just helps you not have to put in the last name to save time on your most common surname spelling.

Project Start: Enter the date that your project stared. This must me in YYYY-MM-DD format or you can click on the calendar icon beside this field and select a date.

Project Administrator: Enter the name of your project administrator.

Project Admin Email: Enter the email address of your project administrator.

Project Co-Admin: If you have a Co-Admin, enter their name here.

Project Co-Admin Email: Enter the Co-Admin email address here.

Website Root: Enter the web site address of either, your genealogy web site or your genealogy DNA web site.

Discussion Board: If you have a discussion board, enter the web address here.

Mailing List: If you have a mailing list, enter the web address here.

TNG Pedigrees: If you use TNG (The Next Generation Genealogy Software), this is the location of your getperson.php file on your server.
Example:  getperson.php?person=####&tree-####

HTML Pedigrees: Enter the directory that holds the html pedigree files.
Example: /httpdocs/pedigrees/

NOTE: Most of the time the above information will not, but could, change.

Results Pages Display Options: This is where you set the options for what will show up in the DNA Marker area of the results pages.

Display participants name or ancestor with kit? Will display either the first name of the Kit owner or the Paternal Ancestor (ydna) that is entered when you enter a participant for the first time.

Display group number or group name/id?  Will display either the group number or group name/id that is entered when you enter group number or group name/id when you set up a group for the first time.

Attach participants email address to kit number? On your results page a kit number will be displayed. This option will display that kit number as a link that, when clicked on, will open up the user email client and insert the participant’s email address that is attached to this kit. You will enter this email address when you set up a new participant.

Testing Companies: Place a checkmark in the box beneath each company that this project will use. You can add or delete later.

Latest Project Info: and  Status Date: The information you enter here is what shows up on the results main page under the ‘Latest News and DNA Results’ section. Entering the status date will insert that after ‘Latest News and DNA Results’. Remember, this must me in YYYY-MM-DD format or you can click on the calendar icon beside this field and select a date.

Welcome Email: This is the body of the email that will be sent to every new participant. Selecting ‘Yes’ on Auto-generate Email? will automatically send them this email when you create a new participant. Don’t forget to enter a Subject: in that field also.

Project Purpose: The information you enter here is what shows up on the results main page under the ‘MyFamily Genealogy DNA Results Page’ section.

NOTE: In the above three sections you can enter ‘html tags’ if you know how to use them. i.e. <b></b>, <i></i>, <u></u>, and many, many more.

Don’t forget to click the ‘Submit Info’ icon at the bottom of the page when you are finished entering all of you project information. That way you do not have to do it over again!

That’s it. You have configured you Genealogy Page with DNA-PAT™.

Next, let’s add a new participant.
